Waccamaw River

The Waccamaw River, deep to it's wooded banks, is possibly the most scenic part of the ICW route. Moss-draped cypresses line it's side streams, wildflowers of all descriptions grow in cypress stumps.

We travelled seven hours, weaving through long stretches of this sometimes narrow winding river.

As we past the highest trees, ospreys were sitting on nests and guarding their eggs.

The Socastee Swing Bridge is old and frequently in need of repair. We must call the bridge tender on VHF Channel 9 to find out it's current status.

We pulled into Barefoot Marina in North Myrtle Beach, in front of a cold-front that should go down into the 30's and 40"s Wednesday and Thursday. We're not in Miami anymore!
