The Chesapeake

Hi everyone! We made it to the Chesapeake Bay yesterday after two weeks of partying in Norfolk at the Waterside Marina with one hundred other boaters.

Thirty boats were here ready to travel the Great Loop, many of them similar to our boat.

We made alot of friends and shared years of boating stories. Meals and seminars took place at the Sheraton Hotel.

Our new friends, Jim and Joy Pankey from Savannah will be "buddy boating" with us up the Chesapeake on their Carver 44.

Scenic Deltaville sits on the Chesapeake Bay's lower western shore. The bay and it's many tributaries here are dotted with crab-pot floats. The area is still an active fishing ground for crabs and oysters.

Dozier's Regatta Point Marina is located in beautiful, rural surroundings. Dozier's publishes all of the Waterway Guides and sponsored a party at the marina last night in Deltaville.

Fifteen boats showed up for the weekend cook-out, which is a 41 mile trip from Norfolk.

I'd say that's one happy camper waiting for his steak.

The dogs off of the boat "Snow Cat" never miss a cook-out!

Tall story time!

We biked around town today and came across the "Crocket" built in 1924 and is the last largest log boat built for power.

Square at both ends, the "Box Boat" is stable in the water so that workers can stand while working on the side of a larger boat tied to a dock or pier. It was built and used for the restoration of the Crocket.

These boats have been donated to the Deltaville Maritime Museum for restoration.

The weather forecast says rain is coming. I can't think of a nicer place to wait it out.
