Potomac River

The Potomac River flows into the Chesapeake Bay. The river is 405 miles long and in terms of area, the fourth largest river along the Atlantic coast. The entrance to the river can get rough in high winds, but as you see, we picked the perfect day to travel.

We reach Colonial Beach Marina after 9 hours and tie up for 2 nights.

This is a lovely town that mainly depends on toursim and blue crabs.

We biked around the island, bought some groceries and fed the ducks.

A cool breeze settles over the creek and I toast to another perfect day.

As we get closer to Washington the landscape changes dramatically.

As we pass under the Woodrow Wilson Bridge we enter Washington D.C.

Entering the city by water is dramatic after traveling 9 hours on the quiet river, planes are flying into the airport over us, and big famous buildings everywhere.

Here we are as we head towards the Washington Monument and the Capital Yacht Club.

It's very impressive.

The best part was, Marine 1 (the President's helicopter) along with a large Marine Huey, flys right over us.

Now that's Washington D.C.!
